Republicans-Take A Mulligan

It would be reasonable to ask me, “why weren’t you furious with the Democratic Party”? I have two responses to that: 1) I was furious at the Democratic Party for coronating Hillary. She was not nominated; she received a coronation, and 2) that the Democratic Party had implemented a system that allowed Super Delegates to usurp the will of the Democratic Party Members. So, I hope that clears that issue up. Let’s move on, shall we?

In 2016, I was furious with the Republican Party. Not because Donald Trump had won the Presidency, and I was a Democrat who voted for Hillary. I am a Democrat, and I did vote for Hillary, but that is not why I was so furious at the Republican Party. I was angry because you could have given the country a candidate that had the experience, temperament, and track record to not only win the office but successfully lead the country in a civil, moral, and logical manner. I am referring to former Ohio Governor John Kasich. As I have already stated, I am a Democrat (maybe an unusual one, but I am a Democrat). I am also a resident of the State of Ohio, and I was one during the eight years Mr. Kasich served as Governor. He is a logical, sincere, intelligent, and secular leader who does what he believes is in the best interest of his constituents, which explains why he had no chance in a Republican primary that revolved around the Donald Trump Three Ring Circus.

Why am I bringing this up now? I’m glad you asked. Because here is a chance for the Republican Party to take a mulligan. Not the kind that Donald Trump takes before driving his golf cart onto the green (yes, he does that). This is the kind of mulligan that matters. The kind that makes up for topping the ball and putting it in the drink, metaphorically speaking. You can do it, Republicans. Let’s work together and start #Mulligan2020.

The Democratic Party has force-fed a candidate that is hard to support down our throats. If things play out as a Trump vs. Biden election in November, I will vote for Biden. I won’t do so comfortably, but it won’t be nearly as bitter of a pill to swallow as voting for Hillary was in 2016.

Republicans…here is your chance. For back to back elections, you have Republican Governors from Ohio who will waltz into the White House given an opportunity to compete in the general election. Yes, I am saying that I would have voted for Kasich over Hillary in 2016 (in fact, I am on record as saying so in 2016 on the Whiskey Congress Podcast). I am now on record as saying that I would vote for Ohio Governor Mike DeWine in 2020 over Joe Biden. There are many policy issues that I disagree with Governor DeWine on. But recent events and the actions that he has taken showed me that he cares first and foremost about what is best for his constituents. The steps he took were not easy or popular. If you listen to our show, you know how I feel about having all bars closed. But Governor DeWine made a difficult decision and did the right thing.

Let me finish by saying that I know this is a complete fantasy. Trump will be the unopposed Republican nominee, will oppose Biden in November barring something drastic, and I will vote for Biden because the circus has to come to an end.
